SDFLC at Mesa College’s ClassiCon

The SDFLC’s partnership with San Diego Mesa College continued in June, as the SDFLC participated in Mesa College’s two-day Classified Conference commonly referred to as ClassiCon. During the first day of the conference, Paul Lim, an SDFLC volunteer and certified financial planner, gave a presentation on taxes and financial planning for the future. SDFLC Community Outreach Coordinator Felipe Arevalo also presented on day one of ClassiCon with a presentation entitled “Financial Literacy: Your Credit and You.” The SDFLC returned on day two of the conference with a team of certified financial planners, who volunteered their time to provide one-on-one financial planning sessions for dozens of Mesa College’s classified employees. The SDFLC’s flagship Smart With Your Money (SWYM) financial opportunity clinics are presented by the Foundation for Financial Planning with support from State Farm.

ClassiCon attendees registered to meet with one of the SDFLC’s certified financial planners in record numbers this year. Several Mesa College employees who had not previously registered to meet with one of our certified financial planners added their names to a waitlist following Paul Lim’s presentation on day one of the conference. The feedback we received from Mesa College has been overwhelmingly positive and we look forward to returning to ClassiCon next year!
