Institute for Financial Literacy – Annual Conference on Financial Education 2018

In April, personal finance experts from around the world gathered in Orlando to share ideas and learn from one another at the Institute for Financial Literacy’s Annual Conference on Financial Education. During the conference, our Director of Community Outreach Chase Peckham, along with Mesa College Professor Howard Eskew, shared how the SDFLC’s collaborative efforts with Mesa College can be replicated nationwide to increase financial education offerings in communities throughout the U.S.

Chase and Professor Eskew’s presentation, entitled “Industry Meets Academia: The Impact on Student Learning from Collaboration,” explained how the SDFLC established our financial literacy partnership with Mesa College and the feedback we’ve received thus far. The SDFLC’s working relationship with Mesa College began with simple in-class presentations in counseling classes and through the years expanded to include personal finance courses and a campus-wide speaker series. Mesa College even hosts exclusive Smart with Your Money Financial Opportunity Clinic’s on campus for staff and students, which are presented by the Foundation for Financial Planning with support from State Farm.
