The Future of Banking

The end of June also brought the end of the quarter. Here at the SDFLC, that can only mean one thing, time for our Education Series and Boost for Our Heroes Award presentation! This quarter’s event was once again hosted by National University at their Spectrum Center Campus.

For the education series, our expert panel gave us a very entertaining look at, “The Future of Banking.” This quarter’s panel included: Todd Lane, the President and CEO of California Coast Credit Union, Scott Yates, the Senior Vice President and Regional Banking Manager at Silvergate Bank, and Albert Motola, the Vice President and relationship Manager at Torrey Pines Bank. The panel was moderated by our Director of Community Outreach, Chase Peckham. In the audience, we had members from partner organizations, constituents who had attended previous events like our Opportunity Clinics, professors from local community colleges and individuals who support our local military families.

Our experts covered pressing matters to the future of banking such as mobile banking, crypto currency, fraud and the myth of a branch free banking system. If you missed the event you can watch it in its entirety on Facebook.

At the conclusion of our Education Series Luncheon, we had the opportunity to award our Boost for Our Heroes Award to a military family going through a financial hardship. This is one of our favorite events we put on every quarter. This quarterly award gives us the ability to make a big impact in the financial lives of a military family who sacrifice so much for us.

All applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for the award:

  • Participate in a workshop, one-on-one consultation, or complete our online financial workbook
  • Commit to ongoing education to ensure that their financial future is secure
  • Become a champion for our program and help us spread our message and mission
  • Work with our team on the Lifecents assessment tool for life-long financial learning
